MCM Welcome Letter

Welcome to M. Clifford Miller Middle School, home of the Mustangs!

Miller is a dynamic middle school that spans 5th through 8th grade.  We welcome our incoming 5th grade students and provide ongoing supports to ease their transition from elementary school. As students progress through the grades there is a gradual increase of responsibilities and independence each year to prepare them for the high school.  Our 5th grade orientation will be Monday, August 25, at 1:00 pm.

Miller has lots of opportunities to grow in the arts, athletics, and other hobbies through the district music and athletics programs, but also during intramurals, 10th period extended activities, and the annual school play!  Miller Middle School is a diverse community that respects and supports everyone in all our unique and special ways of expression. We encourage hard work, responsibility, and keeping an open mind about growing to be our best selves!

We do not tolerate bullying and utilize Restorative practices and a variety of support personnel to respond to poor choices that may lead to discipline. Attendance in school is crucial to student success and being focused on schoolwork is the next most important quality. This year, we will be supporting the NY State direction for no cellphone usage in school by using Yond’r bags in which all students will put their phones during the school day when arriving to the building.  This is not new, as we used them last year too and saw a notable increase in attentiveness and achievement, as well as a significant drop in related incidents resulting in discipline.

We are excited this year to continue our work with iReady diagnostics in Math and Reading, both of which helped us reach and exceed achievement goals last year. Our 5th grade will also be using the CKLA program to further their Humanities studies.

Please check the district calendar for upcoming events and sign up for Parent Portal and Microsoft Teams, which will give you quick access to your students’ assignments and progress. More information on these and other parent supports can be found on the Parent Corner webpage.

Looking forward to a great year,
